Faro Island, Ilha de Faro

Faro Island (Ilha de Faro), Faro Portugal, is a popular holiday destination. It is located near the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a protected area important to migratory birds with its feeding grounds and habitats for specialist marine life. The island is connected to the mainland by a single road bridge and is not far from Faro airport. Faro is a city in the Algarve region in the south of Portugal.

Faro Island has a beautiful five kilometres long beach (Praia de Faro beach), clear cold sea water (even in the summer) and is very suited for relaxing and getting a tan or watersports, like windsurfing, surfing, kitesurfing, sailing, stand up paddling (SUP) and kayaking. Other activities that can be done are: (mountain) biking, quad tours, tuk tuk or trike tours, horse riding and diving.

The Praia de Faro is the best beach in the Faro region and also suitable for families, in summer the popular parts of the beach are supervised by life guards. The boardwalk and beach have nice bars and restaurants and ther are a few low rise hotels on Faro Island.

The Praia de Faro has a relaxing and easy-going atmosphere, most visitors are Portuguese tourists, and it’s very different to the rest of the hectic Algarve.
